In 1919, when the North Shore Channel was new, and the area surrounding it was largely unusable, some progressive and creative leaders of Evanston and Wilmette joined together with a vision for a golf course – not just any golf course, but one tailored to wind through our communities and provide a unique public golf experience.

In 2017, the began engaging their neighbors and supporters so that they have a meaningful role support the environmental health of the property long term.

Friends has been focused on cleaning the North Shore Channel (#losethelitter), bringing the wildlife back, and beautifing the area. Canal Shores Golf Course is organizing a restoration work day the second Saturday of each month to do habitat work. Friends is happy to support Canal Shores Gold Course with their restoration efforts

Members of the Canal Shores community, believe that it important to care for this unique space with our time, labor, and donations. The Grounds Committee spearheads organizing project info meetings and volunteer work sessions in support of our Superintendent Tony Frandria and his crew.
