Flatwater Classic
As you may have already heard, for now Friends of the Chicago River won’t be hosting the Chicago River Flatwater Classic but we wanted to thank you for the many years of support the paddling community gave Friends, making the event a real success.
Over the last 12 years, your presence on the river helped us win our battle for new water quality rules which will make the water cleaner and make the case for removal of several dams on North Branch, a process that is underway right now.
While there is no Flatwater for now, there are other great ways to get on the river with Friends or on your own. To find out more, please stay in touch with us by signing up for our e-news, watching SAM for new events and activities, liking us on Facebook, and following us on Twitter! We will post updates on dam removal on our website and through our e-news.
Together, we have made a real difference for the Chicago River and we look forward to celebrating continued victories and sharing our newest programs with you in the future. And, Flatwater, or no Flatwater, we hope to see you on the river very soon!
All the best and thank you,
Meshawn Ayala, 2011 Flatwater Coordinator
Kimberly Rice, 2005-2010 Flatwater Coordinator
Margaret Frisbie, 2000-2004 Flatwater Coordinator
