Des Plaines River Canoe & Kayak MARATHON

The Des Plaines Marathon was founded in 1957 by Ralph Frese, an avid paddler and canoe builder. The beautiful course runs 18.5 miles on the upper Des Plaines River in northern Illinois. Added in 2014 the 5.25 mile Minithon ends at the same finish line as the longstanding 18.5 mile paddle.

The post race party continues with food, music, awards and story swapping.

Kickapoo Woods - Centennial Volunteers

From milkweed to goldenrod, Kickapoo's native prairie plants need your help. Join an inspiring movement of volunteers gathering to restore this special site along the Little Calumet River. Learn to restore diverse wildlife, trees, wildflowers, and health in our forest preserves and our river systems. Our goal is to grow a community of people who will become caretakers and stewards through on-going education and training.
