Fishin’ Buddies is wonderful program that teaches kids how to fish and provided opportunities for youth to learn about the conservation of Illinois wetlands, lakes, and streams.

Little Calumet River Underground Railroad Project

The Little Calumet River Underground Railroad Project conducts tours and educational events dedicated to Freedom Seekers and local abolitionists who risked everything to assist escaped slaves who traveled through the area.

Thorn Creek Environmental Club

The Thorn Creek Environmental Club works to improve the environment of the Thorn Creek Watershed with the objective to enhance salmon spawning and survival conditions as well as kayaking, canoeing, and removing debris from Thorn Creek.

Village of Thornton Historical Society

Founded in 1974, the Thornton Historical Society consists of volunteers that are dedicated to the preservation of the history of the village. The Historical Museum is housed in the old St. Paul Lutheran Church building that was built in 1904.
