Help reduce erosion and create habitat by planting native plants along the banks of the Chicago River system. 

The Calumet River flows through several south-side Chicago neighborhoods and 180 years of African American history—sites and figures whose impact remains with us today. Join us to trace nearly two centuries worth of stories about African Americans who fought for freedom and equality.

As part of our Inside, Out & About initiative, please join Friends’ staff on a short hike of Canal Origins Park and a discussion of Bubbly Creek. We will talk about the history of the site from Native Americans to today. A discussion of water quality at the site over the last 200 years will be a focus. Questions are encouraged.

Join Commissioner Josina Morita of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and Friends of the Chicago River and up to 200 people for the launch of the Summer Float Party!
