Since 1979, Friends of the Chicago River has been working to protect and restore the Chicago-Calumet River system for all people, water, and wildlife; and by doing so, has laid the foundation for the river to be a beautiful, continuous, and easily accessible corridor of open space in the Chicago region.
In 2006, Friends opened our McCormick Bridgehouse & Chicago River Museum in a historic landmark bridge tender house on the Michigan Avenue DuSable Bridge. Twenty years later, the once new Chicago Riverwalk has become a vibrant tourist destination, attracting millions of visitors down to the main stem of the Chicago River to see it up close, eat, drink, and of course learn about it at the Bridgehouse Museum. Our museum, once one of the only attractions on the Riverwalk, is a place for guests to learn the history of the Chicago-Calumet River system, how it was once one of the most polluted waterways in the world, and the remarkable story of its fairly recent renaissance.
Join Museum Director, Josh Coles, for an Earth Day webinar highlighting the work of Friends of the Chicago River and our Bridgehouse Museum, some fun looks through the past, and what to expect to celebrate for the 20th Anniversary.
The 45 minute presentation followed by a Q&A is free, but registration is required. Zoom link will be emailed to registrants ahead of the event.
All registrants will be gifted a FREE one-year membership to Friends as a thank you for celebrating Earth Day with us.
