Friends of the Chicago River is partnering with EarthEcho to host an exciting and educational riverside event to honor World Water Monitoring Day on September 18.

We are thrilled for Philippe Cousteau Jr. to be joining us! An explorer, environmental advocate, the son of Philippe Cousteau Sr. and the grandson of Jacques-Yves Cousteau, and founder of EarthEcho, Mr. Cousteau brings a most unique and compelling personal interest in educating the public about environmental and conservation issues.

Cousteau Jr. will work alongside Friends of the Chicago River staff, local educators and their students, the EarthEcho team and volunteers from Xylem Watermark. Through their participation, youth attending the event will have the opportunity to learn more about their water resources and join the millions of volunteers who have contributed water quality data to the EarthEcho Water Challenge global database.

“The EarthEcho Water Challenge provides an opportunity for people of all ages but especially youth to connect with water resources in their community by taking the first step towards action,” said Cousteau. “We want to invite youth and families from the Chicago area to join the 1.5 million citizen scientists across the globe who have already made water quality in their communities’ a top priority through the EarthEcho Water Challenge.”
