Hispanic Heritage Paddle
Hispanic Heritage Paddle
October 18, 2025
11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Powderhorn Lake - 13938 Brainard Ave, Burnham, IL 60633
FREE - in partnership with the Forest Preserves of Cook County
Celebrated mid-September to mid-October, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month, to celebrate the heritage, history, traditions, and cultural diversity of Hispanic Americans during a period that includes the independence days of several countries. Audubon Great Lakes will join us to offer bilingual birding on the paddle.
Friends will provide a paddling lesson and safety monitoring for all guests. Registration is not necessary, just bring yourself! We recommend paddlers are at least 10 years old and all minors paddle with a guardian (younger river lovers are welcome to sit in the center of the boats with their guardians).
Be sure to wear closed toed shoes or sandals that strap onto your feet and comfortable attire. We also suggest bringing water, sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, or a raincoat depending on conditions. You are welcome to bring your camera or phone but it should be stored in a watertight container.
This is a rain or shine event. Should there be thunderstorms or any other condition which would make paddling unsafe, we will get off the water and/or delay paddling until it is safet to do so. All participants must sign Friends’ liability waiver: https://bit.ly/3wzK5wi. If you are under 18, your waiver needs to be signed by a parent or guardian. Waivers will also be available on site.
