Introduction to Paddling

September 13, 2025

10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Wampum Lake

FREE - in partnership with the Forest Preserves of Cook County

No registration necessary!

Come have fun learning to paddle with Friends at Wampum Lake. Friends will provide a paddling lesson and safety monitoring for all guests. Registration is not necessary, just bring yourself! We recommend paddlers are at least 10 years old and all minors paddle with a guardian (younger river lovers are welcome to sit in the center of the boats with their guardians).

Be sure to wear closed toed shoes or sandals that strap onto your feet and comfortable attire. We also suggest bringing water, sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, or a raincoat depending on conditions. You are welcome to bring your camera or phone but it should be stored in a watertight container.

This is a rain or shine event. Should there be thunderstorms or any other condition which would make paddling unsafe, we will get off the water and/or delay paddling until it is safet to do so. All participants must sign Friends’ liability waiver: https://bit.ly/3wzK5wi. If you are under 18, your waiver needs to be signed by a parent or guardian. Waivers will also be available on site.
