In Memorial – Sigrid Pilgrim

Sigird and her husband, Al, paddling in 2008.

Friends of the Chicago River mourns the loss of Sigrid Pilgrim, a committed defender of the environment, a paddling and waterway access champion, and a decades-long volunteer and supporter of Friends of the Chicago River.

Her family, friends, and fellow advocates celebrated her life recently at Hillside Church in Evanston. “Sigrid was an avid outdoorswoman, who loved paddle sport, hiking, camping, and gardening,” as noted in a remembrance of her legacy. “She was a defender of nature, protector of butterflies and wilderness spaces. Working with many local individuals and organizations, she established both a pollinator garden and wildflower meadow in her local Lovelace Park in Evanston.”
