Artist Performs at Bridge Lift Viewing October 16 for Open House Chicago

As part of the McCormick Bridgehouse and Chicago River museum’s participation in Open House Chicago, artist Damon Locks – visual artist, educator, vocalist/musician, and deejay – will perform a duet with the live sounds of the DuSable Bridge lift in the gear room of the museum on Saturday, October 16. Admission to the Bridgehouse is free Saturday, October 16, and Sunday, October 17. Locks will perform with and among the moving gears of the historic 101-year-old bascule bridge. Arrive at the museum at 9:30 a.m. Bridge lifts will likely occur between 9:45 and 10 a.m.

The bridge lifts start at Lake Shore Drive, the first of 27 bridges that go up, proceeding west to the Ashland Avenue Bridge on the South Branch of the Chicago River. The DuSable Bridge at Michigan Avenue is the third in this procession. The process for each bridge to go up and down takes approximately 10 minutes.

The remaining Saturday bridge lift viewings are Saturday October 23 and 30. Tickets to the October 23 and 30 lifts include time to visit the museum. Advance registration is required for the final two Saturday bridge lifts. For more information or to reserve your spot, call the museum at (312) 977-0227. Any changes to the bridge lift schedule by the City of Chicago will be posted to the museum’s website at
