Litter Cleanup Supports Community; Builds Camaraderie and Awareness

A hard-working crew of more than 50 volunteers worked side by side November 9 removing trash and large debris at a multi-site cleanup event to support the south suburban community of Ford Heights.

Friends co-hosted the cleanup with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office whose volunteer employees enthusiastically picked up trash at five locations. With disposal equipment – including a tractor loader – provided by WM, the volunteers fanned out in pairs with grabbers, buckets, rakes, and shovels to collect trash. Improving public health and protecting the Deer Creek tributary of the Little Calumet River were the satisfying results of their hard work which filled a 20-yard dumpster, disposing nearly 4.5 tons of trash and debris.
