More Bold Thinking, Action, and Advocacy

A recent Crain’s newsletter, that is a partnership with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, included a blog about “How Chicago, Beijing, and Paris are making their rivers swimmable.”

While science shows that many reaches of the Chicago-Calumet River system are clean enough for swimming, many of our elected officials and government agencies do not support it.

As we approach World River’s Day (September 24), we must re-dedicate ourselves to more bold thinking, action, and advocacy for the betterment of the Chicago-Calumet River system to benefit people and wildlife.

At Friends, we believe in the right to recreate –including swimming – and to creating a more accessible river system. The river system is essential to improving public health supporting wildlife and plant biodiversity, and building climate resiliency for the region.
