River Reminiscent: 2006

In 2006, to much fanfare, Friends of the Chicago River proudly opened the McCormick Bridgehouse & Chicago River Museum. Housed in the historic southwest tower of the DuSable Bridge at Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive, the museum has become a popular cultural and educational gem along the Chicago Riverwalk.
Through engaging exhibits, the Bridgehouse Museum tells the story of the Chicago-Calumet River system—its vibrant past, present challenges, and future possibilities. Last year alone, a record-breaking 38,000 visitors explored the museum, drawn in by special programming and a pay-what-you-can admission model that offers accessibility for all.
Beyond its exhibits, the Bridgehouse Museum also offers a stunning setting for private and corporate receptions. With approximately 1,200 square feet of indoor space and a capacity of 79 guests, it’s perfect for intimate gatherings. Rentals also include access to our riverwalk plaza, offering breathtaking, one-of-a-kind views of downtown Chicago and the river below.
