Tessa Murray Named 2025 Emerging Stormwater Leader

We are proud to announce that Tessa Murray, watershed policy manager at Friends of the Chicago River, has been named one of Stormwater Solutions’ 2025 Emerging Leaders.

Each year, Stormwater Solutions honors a select group of rising professionals of the stormwater and water resources industry. This year’s class features a diverse array of talent, spanning technical services, education, planning, and advocacy—and Tessa’s work stands out as a model of leadership and practical impact.

In her role as watershed policy manager, Tessa plays a vital part in advancing the mission of the Greater Chicago Watershed Alliance, and serving a key core member of Friends’ Policy and Planning teams. Her efforts support critical improvements to water quality, land use, and public health.

With a degree in Environmental Science from McGill University and certification as a public health entomologist, Tessa brings a unique blend of scientific expertise and policy insight to her work. Her background also includes experience as the sustainability coordinator for the Village of Northbrook, where she led climate and resilience initiatives at the local level.
