Poster Contest Inspires Litter Free Action
Friends of the Chicago River is excited to launch our annual student poster contest, an engaging opportunity for young people to inspire action and help build a Litter Free Chicago-Calumet River system. Each year, the contest encourages creativity while connecting students to the health of their rivers and communities.
The 2026 theme, “Taking Action for a Litter Free River,” celebrates the simple and powerful steps individuals can take to keep trash out of the river system. This year’s contest also builds awareness for our annual Chicago River Day on May 9, when thousands of volunteers come together across the watershed to care for the river.
With the generous support of WM, the poster contest is free and open to all Chicagoland youth ages 8 to 18. Students may submit artwork individually or as part of a school or community group, making it easy for classrooms, clubs, and families to participate.
Poster submissions are due by April 3, 2026.
Winners will be announced in May, and selected posters will be featured in a special exhibit at Friends’ McCormick Bridgehouse & Chicago River Museum throughout the 2026 season, giving young artists the chance to see their work showcased in a historic riverfront setting.
