Spanish-Language Tours Expand Access at the Bridgehouse Museum

The McCormick Bridgehouse & Chicago River Museum is making its exhibits and stories more accessible by offering guided tours in Spanish. Led by Museum Associate Dimitra Kakares, the tours invite Spanish-speaking visitors to discover the history of the Chicago-Calumet River system, explore the landmark bridgehouse, and experience one of the city’s most distinctive museums in their preferred language.

Spanish-language guided tours are offered on Saturdays through October. The approximately 60-minute tours begin at 3 p.m. in the museum lobby and take visitors through the historic five-story bridgehouse while sharing the story of its remarkable engineering, and the transformation of the river system into a thriving natural resource teeming with wildlife.

The Spanish-language tours are part of the museum’s ongoing efforts to create a more welcoming and inclusive experience for all visitors by reducing language barriers and broadening access to its educational programs. As the cultural anchor of the Chicago Riverwalk, the Bridgehouse Museum connects people of all backgrounds to the history, ecology, and future of the river system.

 Advance registration is encouraged for the Spanish-language tours. The Bridgehouse Museum is open Wednesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through October 2.
