Numerous elected officials and volunteers joined Friends this week for a My Chicago River Day Summer Challenge litter cleanup along the North Branch of the Chicago River and the Gompers Park Wetlands on Chicago's North Side.

Congressman Mike Quigley, MWRD Commissioner Josina Morita, Cook County Commissioner Bridget Degnen, and staff members of 39th Ward Alderman Samantha Nugent's office fanned out across the work site collecting bags and bags of litter Wednesday morning.

"It was a fun day in Gompers Park and we got a lot of trash cleaned up. We are grateful to have the support of so many public officials for our policy and planning advocacy and we appreciate thier willingness to literally roll up their sleeves to help keep the Chicago River system free of litter," said Friends' Executive Director Margaret Frisbie.
