Help Shape the Future of the Calumet River Corridor

The City of Chicago has just released a draft land use plan for the Calumet River area — and they want your input. Take the survey here (in English and Spanish).
This plan will guide how land is used in the future around the Calumet River, and Friends of the Chicago River thinks it’s crucial that all of our voices are heard.
Let’s make sure the plan prioritizes:
- Clean water and climate resiliency using nature based solutions
- Community health and a strong local green economy
- Expansion of green space and river habitat
Friends has a long worked for the protection and restoration of the Calumet region and now coordinates the Calumet Stormwater Collaborative (CSC) under the umbrella of the broader Greater Chicago Watershed Alliance, which Friends initiated in 2020. Previously facilitated by the Metropolitan Planning Council, the CSC continues its mission to strengthen cross-jurisdictional collaboration around stormwater management in the Calumet River watershed, with renewed emphasis on equitable nature-based solutions and multi-benefit projects.
Please take a few minutes to review the plan and share your thoughts — your feedback matters and will help build a better, more sustainable future for the Calumet River and its surrounding neighborhoods.
