Chicagoans, Take Action! Support the Cumulative Impacts Ordinance

Friends of the Chicago River stands firmly in solidarity with the more than 70 organizations calling on the City of Chicago to move the Hazel M. Johnson Cumulative Impacts Ordinance forward.

This long overdue ordinance is the result of decades of grassroots organizing led by frontline communities fighting for clean air, clean water, and healthier neighborhoods. Too many communities along the South Branch, Calumet River, Little Calumet River, and the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal continue to bear the cumulative impacts of polluting land-use decisions generation after generation.

In honor of the legacy of Hazel M. Johnson, the mother of the environmental justice movement founded here in Chicago, this ordinance represents a crucial step toward building a healthier, more equitable city, and aligns with Friends’ goals to advance environmental, public health, and centered land-use planning along the entire river system.

If you are a Chicagoan, tell your alderperson you support this important policy with this quick action.
