All our communications are centered on the award-winning work of our three program areas to protect and restore the river system: Education and Outreach, Policy and Planning, and On-the-Ground Projects.

Held on the Bridgehouse Museum's outdoor plaza on the Chicago Riverwalk, the seven--part series kicks off at 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 26 and continues on select Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m. through September 18.
The speaker series is free and open to the public.

Friends of the Chicago River is pleased host a special and free event for residents of the Calumet region on June 21 at Kickapoo Woods in Riverdale. In recognition of Juneteenth.

For the second year in a row, staff from Imani Village, Chicago Park District, and Friends of the Chicago River gathered at Big Marsh Park recently for a collaborative professional development day centered on environmental education, leadership, and community engagement in the Calumet region.

In bestowing the award, PETA recognized Friends’ annual Chicago River Day which mobilizes thousands of volunteers to clean up litter and restore habitat.

Starting June 17, 2025, MWRD is switching to a new system to send combined sewer overflow notifications.

In a major victory for the Chicago River, last week a judge approved the proposed $4.8 million environmental settlement between Friends of the Chicago River, the Sierra Club, and the Illinois Attorney General and the Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago.

To much fanfare, Friends of the Chicago River proudly opened the McCormick Bridgehouse & Chicago River Museum in 2006.
