Friends Supports Foundry Park TIF Funding Improvements

Friends of the Chicago River supports the City of Chicago’s approval of TIF funding for Foundry Park’s improvements to the riverfront including parks, trails, and ecosystems.

The river belongs to people and nature, and Foundry Park is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to restore a reach of the Chicago River that has been fenced off from the public for decades and set a new standard for riverfront development.

The plans presented during the project’s approval process embrace ecological restoration through naturalized river edges, native plantings, bioswales, and rain gardens as well as expands access to the water including what was labeled a beach.

Friends will follow the project closely as it advances and work with the City, developers, and community partners to ensure these concepts are carried forward in their fullest form and Foundry Park becomes a place where the community, wildlife, and the river can thrive.
