At Friends of the Chicago River, we’ve been working to improve conditions for turtles for years—restoring water quality and protecting habitats.

Currently, 15 supply stations are active across the Chicago-Calumet River watershed, located at community hubs and open to anyone ready to take Litter Free action.

With more than 2,800 volunteers, 92 cleanup sites, and unprecedented support from elected officials and sponsors, this year’s event was the largest in Friends history!

Al Safranek has a passion for the environment and is committed to clean water and the reduction of pollution which he has learned more about from this experience as an organic hay farmer.
